Millennial Media: Android generates 56% of October ad impressions


Google's (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android operating system accounted for 56 percent of mobile ad impressions across the Millennial Media network in October 2011, double Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) iOS at 28 percent, Millennial reports. Android has consistently led all other operating systems on the Millennial platform for 11 consecutive months, the firm adds.

Smartphones generated 71 percent of all Millennial Media impressions in October, with feature phones at 15 percent and connected devices at 14 percent. Touchscreen device impressions have grown 44 percent year-over-year and now account for 69 percent of device impression share--touch/Qwerty devices make up 11 percent, with Qwerty devices and keypad devices at 10 percent each.

Music and Entertainment led all Millennial mobile application categories last month, ahead of Games. Millennial also notes a 14 percent month-over-month impression jump in the Productivity and Tools category, indicating that consumers are increasingly embracing mobile devices for utility purposes as well as entertainment.

Looking ahead to 2012, 40 percent of developers across the Millennial Media platform say building new apps is their primary goal during the year to come, with 21 percent concentrating on approaches to maximizing revenue. Twelve percent look to improve app discovery, 10 percent will focus on marketing and another 10 percent will learn a new programming language.
