Mobile software security startup Lookout has completed a $5.5 million Series A financing round led by Khosla Ventures. A spinoff of security consulting firm Flexilis, Lookout is privately testing iPhone, Android, BlackBerry and Windows Mobile applications including anti-virus and firewall protection, data backup and remote data wipe in the event a smartphone is lost or stolen. According to Lookout, its applications--scheduled to roll out in 2010--will target consumers instead of enterprise users, the target demographic for most mobile security solutions. The firm will offer both free and premium subscription versions of its apps.
