Mobile Content Venture teams with MobiTV for DTV apps

Mobile Content Venture, the nationwide mobile DTV effort launched in mid-April by a dozen broadcast groups including NBC, Fox and Cox Media Group, will partner with mobile broadcast solutions provider MobiTV to develop a suite of consumer applications slated to roll out as part of the MCV consumer launch in late 2011. Per terms of the deal, MCV will leverage the MobiTV technology platform to deliver video services and program information across mobile DTV-enabled devices. In addition, MCV will team with value-added content protection and multiscreen television solutions provider Nagra-Kudelski on standards-based conditional access management tools, enabling broadcasters to encrypt content and evaluate multiple business models. Nagra-Kudelski will also facilitate a user registration process allowing MCV to offer ad-supported content.

Mobile Content Venture notes that hardware manufacturers including Dell and Samsung have signed on to deploy MCV-compatible devices, complete with a mobile DTV tuner to receive live broadcast television. Late last year, MCV said it will deliver services to more than 40 percent of the U.S. population by late 2011, with at least two ad-supported free-to-consumer channels in each market.
