Those of you keeping an avid eye on the mobile enterprise landscape are probably having an exciting time this week. In case you missed it, Monday saw the launch of the Wireless Enterprise Symposium 2008 (WES) in Orlando, Florida. On the same day, RIM also unveiled the hotly anticipated RIM BlackBerry Bold smartphone, touted by some to be the iPhone killer.
In fact, the announcement of the BlackBerry Bold was accompanied by an increase in RIM's stock price. BlackBerry fans can check out more details of this new smartphone in our summary below. Elsewhere, rumors abound on the next version of Apple's highly successful iPhone, which is expected to be released at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference next month.
With Apple trying hard to make inroads into the enterprise through its recent move to license and incorporate Microsoft's Direct Push technology, RIM is also working hard to gain market share by appealing more to the end user. Not to be outdone, Microsoft is quietly doing what it does best--improving its product over multiple iterations. In fact, a Microsoft executive has been heard mentioning 40 percent of the smartphone market by 2012.
