Mobile security management market to double by 2015

The mobile security management market segment is forecast by ABI Research to reach the $1 billion mark by 2015, almost twice the amount expected this year.

A segment of the broader enterprise mobility management market, MSM focuses on securing mobile devices, applications and content, such as data leak prevention, access control, compliance reporting and monitoring, ABI explained.

Enterprises are demanding security as part of their mobile device management solution, spurring the demand for mobile security products. MDM vendors are moving toward offering security solutions, as well as mobile app and content management features.

Eventually, all of these functions will become a basic requirement for a broader EMM offering, ABI predicts.

"While MDM will continue to provide the largest share of revenues, growth rates from other sectors, and, in particular, security and content management, will increasingly account for a much larger portion of the market," says Michela Menting, ABI Research's senior analyst in cyber security.

The broader EMM market will offer opportunities for vendors in the market value chain, including mobility management vendors, original equipment manufacturers, technology companies, mobile network operators and Internet security software developers, Menting noted.

Strategy Analytics predicts that the BYOD trend will fuel demand for the EMM products through 2017, according to a report by CBR. The market "is no longer purely the domain of specialist enterprise mobility vendors who are strongly positioned in terms of core technical capabilities," said Gina Luk, senior analyst for mobile enterprise strategies at Strategy Analytics.
