Mobile software development is big business
Ngmoco, a developer of popular games on Apple's iPhone platform has managed to close a new round of venture funding to the tune of $10 million. The company claims to have seen over 7 million installs of its games on iPhone and iTouch devices. This is a pretty good figure, given that just 30 million iPhone and iPod Touch devices have ever been sold by Apple, of which a fair proportion--I'm sure--will be first generation iPhones lying stashed with other high-tech toys destined for the junkyard.
The new round of funding would come in handy for the company to expand its game and social networking development, especially given that Apple has just unveiled the new iPhone 3.0 operating system. Developers will now have access to some 1,000 new APIs, which includes specific APIs designed to broaden support for hardware accessories.
On the other hand, reports trickling in indicate that not all iPhone application developers are being paid on time by Apple. If Ngmoco is any indication though, all it means is that business might be brisker than anticipated at the Apple App Store. Make no mistake about it, mobile software development is big business, and with the Palm Pre and possibly Dell joining the market soon, it can only get bigger.
