Motorola to exit the handset business?

Motorola, one of the oldest names in the wireless game, is said to be considering leaving the mobile handset market. According to Richard Windsor, an analyst with Nomura International, an exit from the consumer handset market would allow Motorola to shed a troubled division of the company while increasing focus on more profitable enterprise and government products. Though the company's RAZR handset was a major success when first introduced in 2005, Motorola has since had trouble generating buzz for any subsequent handset. While recent speculation has focused on the possibility of a buyout of the company by Chinese vendors, Windsor dismisses this idea, asserting that "those vendors don't have much of an idea how to fix Motorola's problems."
