Motorola announced that HTC, Sony Ericsson, Pantech and Sharp will use Android-based enterprise mobile device management software from Motorola's newly acquired business, Three Laws of Mobility (3LM).

3LM provides a management console that enables enterprises to create and set policies around security and network configurations for Android devices used by their employees. One of the criticisms of the Android platform has been that the OS is not secure enough.

Motorola said it has taken great care to ensure the 3LM is independent from the company, since rival device makers aren't too keen on buying solutions from competitors. 3LM will operate as a business unit of Motorola, but won't be located at Motorola facilities. In addition, separate IT infrastructure employees are working at the unit, while the founders, former Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) Android employees Tom Moss and Gaurav Mathur, will remain in charge of the unit.

Motorola hopes to extend 3LM's software to its new Xoom tablet.

In related news, Sprint and Good Technology announced partnership to provide what they call business-grade security and full device management features on Sprint's lineup of Android devices, including the HTC EVO 4G, Samsung Epic 4G and the Samsung Galaxy Tab. The solution includes two key components: Good Mobile Control, which provides mobile security and device management, and Good Mobile Messaging, which delivers enterprise-class mobile email.
