Motorola introduces new line of RFID reader
Motorola has unveiled a new series of business-class fixed RFID readers that it says will be ideal for deployment in retail shops and other customer-facing as well as business environments. In contrast to most RFID readers that are catered for use in an industrial setting, the FX7400 series is designed to blend into in-store environments and be aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
This gives retailers and businesses the opportunity to implement RFID for uses beyond the warehouse--such as the monitoring of inventory for overstock and theft situations. Other features such as POE and the ability to perform multiple deployments with a single configuration make it easier than ever for businesses to introduce RFID technology.
The FX7400 series is designed for integration with both Microsoft BizTalk Server 2006 R2 and version 6.0 and 6.1 of IBM WebSphere. In addition, it will host applications written in Microsoft .NET Compact Framework 2.0 on the reader itself. To allow for easier application development, Motorola announced in the same press release, the launch of a new reader interface and set of APIs in .NET, C and Java.
