Apple has unveiled a mobile health and fitness platform called HealthKit for iOS 8 and Mac platform at its Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC), Reuters reports. HealthKit pulls together healthcare data collected by mobile apps on iOS devices. "The HealthKit has the most potential for the future," Nils Kassube, a director of development at German consulting firm Newscope, tells Reuters. "Those of us that are interested in health need a platform for sharing information," he adds. Read more

>> Intel to include chips in 130 Android and Windows tablets this year

As part of its catch-up effort in the mobile chip space, Intel said that its chips are being integrated into 130 Android and Windows tablet models this year, Re/code reports. The company has set a goal of having Intel chips power 40 million tablets this year, the report notes. Intel unveiled more than a dozen of the tablets at the Computex trade show being held this week in Taiwan. Read more

For certain product categories, consumers are using mobile devices exclusively to make purchasing decisions, according to a report by xAd and Telmetrics cited in a Mobile Marketer article. In addition, the study finds that 42 percent of mobile users consider mobile the most important resources in their purchasing decision and more than one-third of mobile shoppers use mobile exclusively, according to survey of 6,000 U.S. mobile users. >> UK online retailers lag in optimizing websites for mobile

One-quarter of the top 100 U.K. online retailers have not optimized their websites for mobile devices, despite the fact that 20 percent of U.K. e-commerce traffic comes from mobile, according to a report by Skava, a provider of multichannel e-commerce products for retailers. "Mobile is the fastest growing sector of ecommerce, yet our data shows that retailers have still to adapt to the changing landscape," says Paul Morrison, U.K. country manager at Skava. Read more

>> Aruba, Cisco and Meru lead enterprises 802.11ac access point shipments

Aruba Networks, Cisco and Meru Networks led enterprises shipments of 802.11ac access points in the first quarter, according to the latest stats from Dell'Oro Group. Overall the wireless local area network market increased 6 percent year-over-year in the first quarter. "We expect that as the 802.11n, 3G offload and smartphone and tablet-driven cycles that drove growth in previous years fade, new drivers will emerge such as 802.11ac, the Internet of Things and new service provider initiatives," says Chris DePuy, vice president of wireless LAN research at Dell'Oro Group.
