Nokia extends Cinemagraph GIF app to Windows Phone 7.5 Lumias

Nokia (NYSE:NOK) released an updated version of its Cinemagraph GIF-making application optimized for Lumia smartphones running Microsoft's (NASDAQ:MSFT) legacy Windows Phone 7.5.

Cinemagraph, introduced in fall 2012 in tandem with Nokia's Windows Phone 8-powered Lumia 920 and Lumia 820, enables users to add motion to still photographs: After an image is captured, the app processes the information contained within the frame to detect movement, identifying elements optimized for animation--for example, a passing car. In addition to adding Cinemagraph animations, users may also adjust the speed and duration of each loop. Clips may be shared via Facebook (NASDAQ:FB), Twitter, email or MMS.

Cinemagraph version, available as a free download from Microsoft's Windows Phone Store, extends the app to all Lumia phones, although Nokia notes the app "performs best on Nokia Lumia 710, 800 and 900."

Cinemagraph is one of several camera applications introduced with the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820. The Smart Shoot app enables users to mix and match components from a sequence of photos, swapping in perfect smiles and swapping out unwanted distractions. Another app, Panorama, synchronizes multiple images to create panoramic views. Nokia has not yet adapted either app for Windows Phone 7.5.
