OK, so you've thought about an iPhone but aren't quite ready to go the Apple route. Which smartphone gives you the best multi-media features along with a healthy dose of cool? Nokia's newest iteration of the N95 could be the device for you. Building on the basics of the first-generation N95, the newest phone adds more memory (enough for 20 hours of video) and a 2.8-inch screen. In addition to impressing the executive in the next office, the N95 promises to be a Nokia phone with great potential for multi-media enterprise applications.

I work for a wireless operator and we have evaluated this phone to determine 'if' we will launch it. It is not everything that people seem to think it is. Aside from the usual beta bugs, the processor in the device is slow, the UI is painful, the production units we had were fraught with hardware defects it also suffers from the typical excessive weight issues that plague Nokia phones.
I have also had an opportunity to play with an iPhone and there is no comparison. The iPhone is sleek, light, fast, intuitive, etc... It is everything that the N95 is not.
While I am not touting the iPhone as the end-all be-all of phones, it is a beautifully crafted device and the N95 will not be the device to knock it off the pedestal it currently occupies.

You know, that's something often missing in discussions of the iPhone: Apple has a reputation for well-built hardware, and the iPhone seems to be cast from that mould. I understand there's been an issue with the glass touch-screen breaking, but that's probably an artifact of the way people have gotten used to handling their phones, rather than a serious product defect.

I hope that other manufacturers will start to emulate Apple in build quality as well as feature-list; that's when we'll start seeing really great things happen in the industry as a result of the iPhone introduction.
