OnMobile Global acquires Livewire Mobile for $17.8M

OnMobile Global, India's largest value-added services company, is purchasing Boston-area mobile entertainment firm Livewire Mobile for $17.8 million. The deal is expected to close later this month.

OnMobile Global will acquire all Livewire business assets and will retain all offices, personnel, platforms and products worldwide. The rebranded, U.S.-based OnMobile Live will incorporate all Livewire properties, including FoneStarz, its wholly owned U.K. managed services subsidiary, purchased in late 2010.

Livewire Mobile offers video, games, music, portal development, mobile advertising solutions, integrated content publishing and merchandising and turnkey-managed VAS operations to carriers in nine countries. In the U.S., Livewire powers digital music services for Sprint Nextel (NYSE:S) and MetroPCS (NYSE:PCS), managing sales of full-track downloads, ringtones and ringbacks for both operators.

OnMobile, which supplies digital music services to operators in Asia, Latin America, Africa and Europe, plans to leverage the Livewire deal to expand its music and ringback tone services to the North American market.
