Opera Mini 7 browser comes to Android


Opera Software released its free Opera Mini 7 browser for Google's (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android mobile operating system. The latest version promises improved hardware acceleration promising faster, smoother web browsing as well as unlimited Speed Dial buttons enabling users to more efficiently access their favorite sites. Opera Mini 7 also compresses up to 90 percent of data to improve speed and reduce costs.

More than 160 million subscribers worldwide now use Opera Mini each month. The Opera Mini and Opera Mobile browsers together yield more than 100 billion page views per month and consume more than 16 Petabytes of mobile data services.

Last month, Opera Software launched its Opera Payment Exchange, enabling Mini users to carry out secure transactions directly within the mobile browser and charge their purchases to their monthly wireless bill. Opera Payment Exchange provides APIs enabling publishers and developers to integrate transaction capabilities into their mobile web content. Opera will roll out the service across the globe in the year ahead.
