Pandora: Mobile is the biggest platform for us

WASHINGTON--Pandora's primary focus for growth is now mobile, with over 75 percent of total listening hours coming from mobile or other connected devices.

In an interview during the CES on the Hill event here, Pandora Director of Communications Mollie Starr explained that this growth in mobile users is one of the reasons that "mobile is the biggest [platform] for us." Pandora is currently available on about 1,000 different devices, including handsets and cars.

Pandora has increasingly been promoting its product in the connected car market and is available for 20 different car brands and 85 different car models. The company also partners with seven after market manufactures to bring Pandora to other types of vehicles.

Last week Pandora announced that it had reached a new milestone, topping 200 million registered users globally and 140 mobile users. Starr added that these users listen to 200 million songs by 10 am everyday. Earlier this month, the NPD Group stated that during the fourth quarter of 2012, the free version of Pandora led all other streaming music services with a 39 percent market share of users 13-35. The study also found that one in five streaming radio listeners (including Pandora) access the service in their cars.
