A 'Peek' into the future of push mail

While some productivity gurus advocate checking emails only a couple of times a day, I have personally found push mail to be useful. Just today, it allowed me to catch up with a couple of PR folks, even as I was out on some errands. They, too, were able to respond to my requests in a hurry.

Of course, one problem that companies are starting to come up against is the ability, or lack thereof, to adequately support and manage the favored email device of choice. Many companies are attempting to mitigate this headache by standardizing on one platform. But what if senior management insists on supporting, say, both BlackBerry and Windows Mobile smartphones? Well, this is where InterNoded Mobile Device Manager comes in. While I was only able to explore it briefly, I am impressed by its feature set and support for the leading push mail devices on the market today.

Speaking of hardware, this brings me to another email gadget, simply named "Peek," which is due to be launched in just a few weeks. What is really unique about the Peek is that it is really a dedicated hardware for checking email, and nothing more. I came across a sarcastic comment somewhere on the blogosphere that goes along the line of "I doubt anyone will require email that urgently to get such a device."

If that's what you are thinking about email in general, I would urge you to re-examine your mindset. Think about it: It wasn't really that long ago when many people felt mobile phones to be overkill, as well as completely unnecessary. After all, "are you so important that you need to be contactable at all times?" Now, I can't even think of any friends who don't own a mobile phone.

Anyway, if you use push mail in any form, write in to let me know how it has helped you...or made things worse. - Paul
