Polycom to bring HD video collaboration software to iPad 2, Android devices
Polycom announced that it is bringing its high-definition video collaboration software to Apple's (NASDAQ: AAPL) iPad 2 and Android-based tablets from Motorola (NYSE: MMI) and Samsung.
The company introduced the Polycom RealPresence Mobile HD video software that runs on the RealPresence platform. The platform supports up to 75,000 devices and 25,000 concurrent sessions, and can be used as an on-premises solution or accessed via the cloud.
Mobile workers will be able to participate in corporate HD video conferences through their tablets with other workers who are using a variety of devices, including tablets and immersive video room systems. Up to 16 people can be connected at once through the Polycom app, which supports VPNs through Wi-Fi, 3G and 4G along with the ability to share documents.
Polycom said the app also offers provisioning and management, system interoperability, firewall transversal and scalability.
Recently Cisco Systems (NASDAQ: CSCO) said it was making its Show and Share solution for managing videos available to iPad and iPhone users via a free app, while ShoreTel, Vidyo and Radvision have all announced plans to push their video collaboration and unified communications software to run on Apple and Android devices.
