American Airlines started offering a fee-based Wi-Fi service that allows Internet access while in the air this summer. The technology that makes this possible is based on CDMA EVDO technology, which connects the plane to the Internet via 92 ground base stations. However, American Airlines flight attendants are apparently urging their employer to block passengers using its in-flight Internet access from viewing pornography and other inappropriate web content. While short of a formal request, the problem of passengers who have a penchant for graphic sex or violence is posing a problem, considering the close quarters that airline passengers find themselves in. This is "not a new scenario for our crews," a spokesman for American confirms.

Apparently we can't count on the travelling public to demonstrate common sense, courtesy and decency. If that is the case, deploy the filters by all means.

If there are no laws, then there should be laws against public display of pornography.

When you have people that cannot govern themselves they will not show "common courtesy" towards those around them, muchless demonstrate common sense or decency. They all do what they see as right in their own eyes; and if you or I don't like it.... well that's just too bad.
