Report: Apple releasing iPad 2 in first quarter
Apple's (NASDAQ: AAPL) next generation of the iPad could be out as early as the first quarter of 2011 and may include video calling, dual cameras, new display and touch technology along with a USB port, according to Taiwanese newspaper Economic Daily.
The Economic Daily, a Chinese-written financial newspaper, is typically a reliable source. It was among the first to correctly reveal that Apple was making a tablet. According to the paper, the iPad 2 will go into production and go on sale early next year.
Brian Marshall, analyst with the firm Gleacher and Company, recently predicted that an iPad 2 would come to market by the spring of 2011 based on his hardware manufacturing sources and the tradition of Apple product releases.
"I think April is the proper time-frame for an iPad 2," Marshall said in an interview with Computerworld. "Since I'm projecting that Apple will release a CDMA iPhone in March, both will help to equalize Apple's seasonality."
