RIM acquires 'Documents to Go' app developer

Research In Motion has reportedly purchased DataViz, which develops the popular "Documents to Go" productivity application, for $50 million in cash.

The "Documents to Go" app allows users to remotely edit, create and view Word and Excel files via smartphones, including BlackBerry, iOS, Android and Windows Mobile phones. CrackBerry.com cited information from multiple sources that the deal went through and noted that multiple DataViz executives now have updated their LinkedIn profiles to show their new status as RIM employees.

Last month, RIM purchased mobile software platform company Cellmania to increase the BlackBerry App World storefront.
