RIM doubles number of BlackBerry apps
Research in Motion has doubled the number of apps for its BlackBerry devices and plans to open its web store to customers overseas as it takes on Apple's iPhone.
RIM's App World now includes 2,000 applications and will be available this month to users in Italy, France, Germany and Spain. Apple has more than 50,000 apps and sold more than 1 million of the new iPhone 3G S during the first days of its June introduction.
Vice president of global alliances, Jeff McDowell said that RIM was "very happy" with the number of applications downloaded from its app store, but declined to reveal an exact number.
