Research In Motion (NASDAQ: RIMM) finally confirmed rumors of a tablet with the release of a BlackBerry tablet with a 7-inch screen called PlayBook (not under the rumored name BlackPad). The tablet will support Adobe's Flash and wireless connections will initially be limited to WiFi and Bluetooth.

Not a lot is known about where the device will be sold or how much it will be priced, but RIM said the PlayBook will become available in retail outlets beginning early next year.

RIM said the tablet, weighing less than a pound, is ideal for large organizations or what it calls an "army of one." The device includes web browsing, what RIM calls "true multitasking" (obviously a dig at the iPad), advanced security features and out-of-the-box support along with a development platform for IT departments and developers.
