Rockstar Games will bring its third-person shooter franchise Max Payne to Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) iOS platform on April 12, with a version optimized for Google's (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android operating system following on April 26.
The first Max Payne game will be available on mobile devices.
According to Rockstar, Max Payne Mobile is optimized for both iOS and Android devices and features HD graphics, high-resolution textures and user-customizable controls. The game also integrates with Rockstar's free Social Club online community service. Pricing details were not disclosed.
First introduced for Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) Windows in mid-2001, the film noir-inspired Max Payne follows the title character, a renegade DEA agent and former NYPD officer seeking revenge against the crime syndicate responsible for the death of his family. As of 2011, the franchise has sold more than 7.5 million copies. The release of Max Payne Mobile coincides with the May 2012 launch of Max Payne 3 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms.
Rockstar extended its signature Grand Theft Auto franchise to iOS and Android in December 2011.
