SAP and Sybase announced the next step in the companies' joint mobility road maps with the release of new enterprise apps, the next generation of the Sybase Unwired Platform and a joint set of solutions developed with Accenture.

SAP and Sybase have released new packaged mobile apps based on the Unwired Platform aimed at enterprises in manufacturing, consumer products, utilities, high tech, oil and gas, and retail.

"Over the past 18 months, SAP has been releasing technologies enabling the rapid creation and deployment of mobile apps through our platform and development tools," said Dr. Raj Nathan, executive vice president and chief marketing officer with Sybase, in a release. "Today, we are announcing several packaged mobile apps that will drastically reduce the costs and time needed for organizations to implement a mobility strategy."

In addition, SAP and Sybase announced the release of the next-generation Sybase Unwired Platform 2.0 along with an enhanced version of their software development kit (SDK), which is expected to come to market within the new few months.

These latest releases are designed to help businesses more efficiently respond to real-time business dynamics through cost-efficient, simplified deployment, development and management of native and web-based mobile applications on a wide array of device types, the companies said.

The enhanced platform and SDK are also designed to enable IT departments to manage the entire application life cycle from deployment (tooling) to provisioning, managing and updating through Sybase's mobile device management solution, Afaria.

Some of the enhancements include: A hybrid web container, SDK for native app development, cross-platform support, integration with back-end systems and security that includes a single sign-on for SAP back-end systems, encrypted HTML5 web storage and encrypted data transport.

SAP and Accenture also announced they will jointly develop and manage the deployment of new enterprise mobility solutions leveraging the Sybase Unwired Platform coupled with Accenture Mobility Services enterprise mobility offerings. Development efforts will initially focus on three industries--oil and gas, utilities and consumer products, with plans to expand into other industries.

Accenture and SAP announced they intend to enter into an agreement to build differentiated solutions that draw on the mobility capabilities the companies have developed by working together since 2000. The strategic relationship also calls for the companies to develop a structured "go-to-market" model aimed at promoting collaboration between their sales teams.
