Six reasons for no tablets

Tablet computers have, for years, been a platform that was just about to break out into big numbers. The results have, for years, been lower than the hopes and expectations of vendors and analysts. Sure, there are niche markets that have embraced the special functions of the tablets, but enterprise buyers keep finding reasons not to purchase the portable platforms. One company has given some of its reasons for saying "no" to tablets, and they make for an interesting list:

  • Handwriting recognition is lacking
  • Special OS required
  • Tablet form factors are improving, but need more improvement
  • Applications and functions are only now ready to work
  • Vendors haven't aimed for the big markets
  • Slow sales lead to slow sales

The details within the list make it clear that interest is there, but that the perception is strong that interest is far ahead of capabilities.
