Skype to launch iPad 2 app soon

Skype is expected to release a dedicated app for Apple's (NASDAQ: AAPL) iPad 2, but it's unclear just when.

A video of the app leaked out on YouTube and was quickly pulled, and meanwhile Skype officials say the app should be coming soon. Rick Osterloh, Skype's vice president of consumer and product design, told The Unofficial Apple Weblog that the iPad app will basically include the same functionality as Skype's iPhone app: chatting, audio and video calling.

Skype's current VoIP app for the iPhone can be used on the first-generation iPad, but the two-way video chat capability that's aimed at the iPad 2 will take advantage of the iPad 2's dual-camera capability to allow video callers to see themselves picture-in-picture within the larger video of the called party.
