Smarter, better, more mobile

Smarter mobiles devices, deployed more intelligently, could mean huge benefits in mobility and productivity according to findings from a project at Stanford University. One of the major points of the project is to search for ways to increase the frequencies available to wireless devices. The primary way to do this would be to use frequencies licensed for private purposes--but to use them only when they weren't needed by the licensee. Techniques taken from spread-spectrum technologies and power-level boosts could mean better performance and less interference for a wide variety of users.
