FIPS certification should speed deployment with government customers

Research in Motion (NASDAQ: RIMM) announced Monday that its new BlackBerry 10 platform and smartphones, which the company is betting will redeem its position in the enterprise, will launch worldwide on Jan. 30. "Our team has been working tirelessly to bring our customers innovative features combined with a best in class browser, a rich application ecosystem, and cutting-edge multimedia capabilities. All of this will be integrated into a user experience--the BlackBerry Flow--that is unlike any smartphone on the market today," said Thorsten Heins, RIM president and chief information officer. RIM noted that the BlackBerry 10 platform has received Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 security certification, which means government agencies will able to deploy the BlackBerry Enterprise Server 10 and BlackBerry 10 smartphones as soon as they are available.
