Samsung led the smart connected device market in shipment numbers in the third quarter, while Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) led in terms of overall value, according to the latest stats from IDC. Samsung posted a 21.8 percent smart connected device market share in terms of third quarter shipment volume, while Apple led all vendors in value with a total of $34.1 billion. In terms of shipments, Apple was second with a 15.1 percent market share, Lenovo was third with 7 percent, HP (NYSE: HPQ) was fourth with 4.6 percent and Sony was fifth with a 3.6 percent market share. Overall, the smart connected device market, which includes PCs, tablets and smartphones, grew 27.1 percent year-over-year in the third quarter. Read more
