Apple retains top spot if iPhone 5 is added to mix

Samsung's Galaxy S3 has overtaken Apple's (NASDAQ: AAPL) iPhone 4S as the world's best-selling smartphone model, according to the latest research from Strategy Analytics. Samsung shipped 18 million Galaxy S3s in the third quarter, more than triple the number in the second quarter, giving the Galaxy S3 10.7 percent of the smartphone market by model. At the same time, Apple only shipped 16.2 million iPhone 4S models in the third quarter compared to 19.4 million in the second quarter, giving it a 9.7 percent market share.
