Sprint (NYSE: S) is expanding its enterprise offerings by adding services from the electric utility market.

The operator has partnered with Proliphix to embed wireless connected into an Internet-based thermostat, and it revealed that its deal with SmartLabs on remote energy management, which was announced earlier this year, will result in the wireless-enabled SmartLabs Insteon plug-and-play system coming to market in late 2011.

The products will be sold to small and medium businesses through Sprint's enterprise channel. The SmartLabs Insteon system will allow property owners to control electric devices such as lighting, security systems and heating and cooling systems by turning them off or on based on different criteria such as time of day or weather conditions. They can do this either via a web portal or Sprint smartphones.
