Sprint: HTC EVO catching on with enterprise users
Sprint (NYSE: S) said the HTC EVO WiMAX/CDMA smartphone it introduced earlier this month is turning out to be a boon in the mobile worker space.
"We've seen quick, early growth in both the consumer and business space with EVO," said Danny Bowman, president of Sprint's Integrated Solutions Group, in an interview with Forbes. "It's a really good business device."
The features business users are attracted to are EVO's dual cameras--one on the front and one on the back to enable video conference calls. The EVO features a 4.3-inch screen. Another feature workers like is the mobile hotspot feature that can connect up to eight WiFi-enabled devices via Sprint's network connection, Bowman said. EVO also has built-in support for Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT)Exchange ActiveSync server.
Digging further, specialized software could increase the EVO's usefulness to enterprise users. For instance, Sprint is forging deals to bring education and scientific software to its high-end devices. A recent deal with Blackboard Inc. will bring users of Sprint's BlackBerry and Android phones to the e-learning software. Bowman said he anticipates 300 to 400 universities to sign up for the program by the fall. Medical imaging is another business application Bowman cited.
