Sprint looks to capitalize on tablet growth in enterprise
A Sprint Nextel (NYSE: S) executive said the operator will add significantly more tablets to its device portfolio in 2011 in a bid to cater to enterprise users looking to replace laptop computers with lower-cost devices.
Paget Alves, president of Sprint's business markets, said tablet growth in corporations is growing exponentially. "There's a lot of interest in tablets, a greater degree of interest and faster adoption than I've seen in any other product...," Alves told Reuters in an interview. "I can't think of anything that's moved this quickly."
He said businesses are aiming to replace notebooks with cheaper tablets for certain employees such as salespeople who need to access corporate information such as spreadsheets but don't need to create the documents.
"Those users, which are the majority of service companies employees, can easily be accommodated by a tablet and therefore they end up with a cheaper alternative to the notebook," Alves said.
