Sprint teams with McAfee for mobile data security solutions
Sprint (NYSE:S) and Intel-owned security tech firm McAfee are rolling out McAfee Mobile Security and McAfee Family Protection Android Edition, a pair of mobile applications designed to help subscribers protect their phones and related data from loss, theft and malware.
McAfee Mobile Security allows users to remotely wipe their data via a web portal.
McAfee Mobile Security enables Sprint customers to locate and track lost phones via the web, back up contacts, photos and videos, and access their personal data from virtually any location. In addition, users can remotely lock a device, remotely wipe data via the McAfee web portal, mobile web or SMS from a "buddy" device, set audible alarms to disrupt thieves and implement pop-up instructions for returning a lost device. McAfee Mobile Security also touts real-time anti-malware protection against viruses, worms and spyware. The app is available as a seven-day trial download, with 12-month subscriptions priced at $29.99.
McAfee Family Protection Android Edition (available as a 30-day trial with 12-month subscriptions priced at $19.99) touts web filtering to restrict children from exploring inappropriate content, complete with blocks for certain media categories and specific websites. An uninstall protection feature keeps kids from disabling or deleting the app. McAfee Family Protection Android Edition works with the Android smartphone's default browser and is designed to block other browsers that can bypass the solution.
