Survey: iPad garners largest tablet interest; RIM's PlayBook comes in second
A new survey points to Research In Motion's (NASDAQ: RIMM) PlayBook as, not surprisingly, playing second fiddle to Apple's (NASDAQ: AAPL) iPad, but respondents placed the PlayBook ahead of other tablets coming into the market.
According to an October survey from ChangeWave, which questioned more than 3,100 people about what specific tablets they were most likely to purchase, RIM's PlayBook grabbed 8 percent of respondents. That percentage was higher than the percentage of all other tablet options combined. These options include the Samsung Galaxy Tab (3 percent) HP (NYSE: HPQ) Slate (2 percent), Archos Tablet (1 percent), Dell's Streak (1 percent) and the Sony Dash (1 percent).
Of course 80 percent of those surveyed said an iPad was most likely in their future. ChangeWave also asked how satisfied current iPad owners are with the device. Seventy-two percent said they were "very satisfied," while 23 percent said they were "somewhat satisfied."
"With the iPad having already set the bar so very high in terms of customer expectations, these new tablets all have their work cut out for them, in order to succeed in the race to gain new market share," Paul Carton, ChangeWave vice president of research, said in a blog post.
