AT&T introduces two WinMo 6.5 smartphones

AT&T made the first introduction of smartphones based on the long-awaited Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system and introduced a voice plan for small businesses.

The operator introduced the HTC Pure and Tilt 2 touch-screen devices (photo courtesy of boygeniusreport.com view slideshow here). HTC layered its TouchFlo 3-D interface over Windows Mobile on both devices, enabling users to view voice, text and email messages in a single contact view.

The smartphones also include Exchange support, allowing users to receive push email, contacts and calendars. Both devices come preloaded with Pocket Office in order to work with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF files.

In July, Microsoft bragged that WinMo 6.5 devices would have a rich browsing experience, allowing people to access more websites than they would be able to access on the iPhone.

The Pure is available at AT&T retail stores and online, and costs about $150 with a new two-year contract and rebate. The Tilt will be available in the next few weeks and will cost about $300 with a monthly plan of at least $70.

The new plans AT&T introduced for small businesses appear to be complementary with the new HTC devices. The BusinessTalk voice plans start at $60 a month for five users with 700 anytime minutes, and businesses can expand this to 40 users with 20,000 minutes for $10 per line.
