AT&T spending $1B for enterprise service enhancements
AT&T announced it will spend $1 billion in 2010 to expand its application, mobile and cloud service capabilities to cater to the enterprise.
On the enterprise mobility application side, AT&T specifically indicated it plans to extend offers and provide solutions in three core categories: Applications, machine-to-machine (M2M) and integrated network solutions. This will include continuing to expand the operator's portfolio of mobile applications across multiple vertical industries--focusing on smart grid solutions and mHealth--offer enhanced fixed-mobile convergence solutions, including premise-based, fixed-mobile convergence and what it calls "super femtocell technology." It also aims to increase support for the more than 750 wireless devices already connected to the network, such as e-readers, netbooks, digital photo frames, personal navigation devices and home security monitoring, and smart-grid devices.
AT&T said enterprise subscribers will see offerings such as Mobile to Any Number for Business, which features unlimited calling to a user-defined list of wireless/wireline numbers with any operator, online activation, network-based fixed-mobile convergence, user rating, online employee shopping to enable employees of corporate customers to take advantage of AT&T Premier Mobility online buying and usability enhancements such as improvements to inventory reports and downloads, end user dashboards and platform performance.
AT&T said the spending is part of the company's existing capital plan. Other investments for businesses include cloud services, telepresence and unified communications, LTE and WiFi investments for enterprise mobility and SMB services. AT&T will also expand its global MPLS network with IPv6 capabilities, add new subsea cable capacity and expand its digital media offerings.
