The trainers, jockeys, touts, and race fans crowding the boxes and rails at Churchill Downs might not have been thinking about the IT infrastructure on the first Saturday in May, but they certainly used it. CIO Jay Rollins has transformed the information processing infrastructure from its 19th century roots into a 21st century operation. In doing so, he's made extensive use of wireless tablets for betting operations. While security is a major concern, Rollins has led his shop to find solutions that keep information secure while allowing data to flow through intensive traffic-volume peaks and valleys.
