Travel site TripAdvisor has acquired GateGuru, a mobile application touting real-time information on flights and airports across the globe. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

GateGuru

TripAdvisor will continue offering GateGuru as a standalone app.

The free GateGuru app, available for Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) iOS, Google's (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android and Microsoft's (NASDAQ:MSFT) Windows Phone, keeps air travelers posted on itinerary updates like security wait times, flight delays, gate changes and layover time adjustments. Users can also access visual representations of airports, rent cars from partner Avis and access reviews of airport retailers, restaurants and related amenities.

TripAdvisor will continue offering GateGuru as a standalone app complementing its existing suite of mobile offerings, including SeatGuru, which supplies color-coded airline seat maps bolstered by advice and insights culled from passenger reviews. Travelers can compare available legroom, determine which planes offer Wi-Fi service and target seats with access to a nearby power outlet.

TripAdvisor-branded sites tout 100 million reviews and opinions spanning more than 2.5 million accommodations, restaurants and attractions, welcoming more than 200 million unique visitors every month. TripAdvisor's previous mobile acquisitions include mobile travel guide provider EveryTrail and traveler photo-sharing app Tiny Post.
