UMG teams with FreeAllMusic.com for free downloads
Universal Music Group announced an agreement with ad-sponsored digital music service FreeAllMusic.com to offer free, legal downloads from the label's massive catalog. Thousands of UMG tracks are now available during FreeAllMusic.com's current private beta period--users can download up to 20 DRM-free, iPod-compatible tracks per month (five per week) in exchange for viewing a video commercial per download. FreeAllMusic.com adds there is no software required to access content from its website--registered users select a participating brand they prefer, and watch a brief commercial from that brand. After each download, the site serves additional ads for that brand across targeted websites. In addition, users can email information about downloads to their friends, who can also obtain the track in exchange for viewing the ad.
In addition to UMG, FreeAllMusic.com brand partners include Coca-Cola, Warner Bros. TV, Zappos.com, Lionsgate, LG, inconcert3D and Powermat. FreeAllMusic adds that artists are compensated no differently than if their music was purchased.
