Univision rolls out bilingual video-on-demand apps for iOS, Android
UVideos promises consumers digital access to popular Univision telenovelas, sports, news and entertainment programming, all available in Spanish or subtitled in English. Time-synching features powered by social media services firm Arktan enable users to view all social and on-site comments as they occurred during a program's original broadcast, allowing friends to experience a broadcast together even if they're watching it hours or days apart. UVideos also touts search and recommendation features powered by video services partner Digitalsmiths.
All UVideos content is free and available to digital viewers within 24 hours of its original television broadcast. Univision will kick off the service with the premiere of the webnovela Te Presento a Valentin (I Present You, Valentine), produced in association with Latin American media giant Televisa. Advertising partners include Allstate, Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) and Wendy's.
Univision is the most-watched Spanish-language broadcast television network in U.S, reaching 96 percent of Hispanic households nationwide. In a survey of U.S. Spanish-speaking Hispanic consumers commissioned by the broadcaster and conducted by Nielsen, more than one-third of respondents said that the ability to consume content on multiple devices when and where it is convenient is among the most important factors when considering a digital video service. In addition, more than 60 percent expressed a desire for more Spanish-language digital video content.
