Urban Airship lands $15.1M from Verizon, Salesforce.com
Mobile marketing solutions provider Urban Airship has closed a $15.1 million Series C funding round, bringing the startup's total financing to date to $21.6 million. Strategic investors including Verizon (NYSE:VZ) and Salesforce.com participated in the round, with existing investors Foundry Group and True Ventures also contributing.
Urban Airship's mobile infrastructure platform enables brands and developers to integrate revenue-generating consumer engagement tools and services like push notifications, rich messaging, in-app purchases, subscriptions and data tracking. Urban Airship now touts more than 20,000 customers worldwide, including Groupon, Warner Bros., the Weather Channel and Yahoo.
Last week, Urban Airship acquired location-aware application services platform SimpleGeo. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. According to Urban Airship, the deal will expand its platform to encompass more context-aware apps leveraging consumers' current whereabouts.
