Verizon is upping the speed of its wireless data network by unveiling Evolution Data Optimized (EV-DO) Rev. A in select cities. The new service, which should offer speeds of 450-800 kbps (download) and 300-400 kbps (upload) will initially be rolled out in several North American cities including Greater Boston, Richmond and Hampton Roads, VA, Greater Chicago, Salt Lake City, and other cities in Utah and Verizon Wireless customer areas in Florida. The new technology should provide data transfer rates of 5-6 times those available from Verizon's current Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) software and systems.
