Vimeo expands video-sharing site to smartphones
Video-sharing website Vimeo announced the launch of a mobile version optimized for the iPhone and Android platforms. Launched in late 2004, Vimeo enables users to embed, share and store their video content as well as comment on other contributions--the site does not allow commercial content, and emphasizes playback quality via higher bitrates and resolution that rival sites, complete with HD support. As of March 2009, Vimeo reported 2 million members uploading more than 13,000 video clips each day--the new mobile version, which optimizes content for easier viewing on handset browsers, will initially offer a limited slate of videos, including staff picks, popular favorites and an HD showcase.
