Vodafone rolls out BlackBerry backup
With all the recent BlackBerry outages, mobile email backup is definitely on everyone's minds these days. Hoping to cash in on that trend, U.K.-based wireless carrier Vodafone has announced plans to roll out Neverfail's high availability service to its BlackBerry Enterprise Server customers. If Neverfail's service detects that the Enterprise Server is having issues, it can take a number of actions, including restarting software or the server itself, redirecting messages to failover systems or notifying the responsible parties in the IT department (I'm sure you're excited to get those calls at 3 a.m.). Of course, this system won't protect you if RIM encounters problems at its Canadian network operations center--only if your own back-end gives out. Still, BlackBerry service is what it is, so you may as well implement backup services where you can.
